The Weekend Ahead: We have another big weekend ahead of us. The
Marshall University Men's and Women's XC teams will be traveling to
Greenville, SC for the Furman Inv. On the road racing circuit, we have
three events this weekend. First the
Covenant 5K Run at
the Barboursville Park in Barboursville, WV. The
Bobcat
Basketball 5K in Franklin Furnace, OH and the
Chesapeake
Oktoberfest 5K in Chesapeake, OH.

City Rivals Meet in Dual - This is the epic battle of the City
of Parkersburg as Parkersburg High School and Parkersburg South High
School meet tonight to see who is the best high school cross country
team in Wood County, WV.

Fire Department Truck Hit by Car During Race - So far, this is
the only news we have seen from the Beckley Half-Marathon. Hopefully, we

Williams Paces Midland Girls to Cross-Country Win - The Midland
boys and girls teams went to the Piketon Inv. over the weekend where the
girls were crowned team champions and the boys were runner-up.

Half Marathon - Top Four Finishers to Get Prize Money - The
lowered the top money award but plan on giving more money to others!
This is better as the traveling Kenyans will go someplace else and other
local runners can earn a couple of bucks!

Local Runner Jason Pyles to compete in USA Men's Marathon Championship -
Jason has been putting in over 100 miles/week lately in prep for the
Twin Cities Marathon in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He will be running the
26.2 this weekend. Check back later for details of how he places!

Hurricane, Ravenswood win team titles at Catholic Invatiational Cross
Country Meet - The Hurricane Girls and Ravenswood boys continue
this years (and for Ravenswood, this decade's) domination of HS XC in
the state of WV

Running Wild - Another WV HS XC Standout is Zach Tennant who ran
in his North Central Athletic Conference (NCAC) meet at the White Golf
Course with a time of 16:53 for the individual title. Also in this meet,
is sophomore sensation Letitia Propst of Elkin's High School who ran
19:45. As a freshman last year, Letitia was crowned the WV State
Champion.

Cougar Runners Stay on Course - WV HS XC Runner Corey Hampshire
from Jefferson HS runs a new course record (Not hard since he has been
breaking records all across the state!). He is one of the top runners in
AAA in WV this year.. On the girls side, Jefferson's Alyssa Boucher came
away with the girls individual title!

at Camp Virgil Tate will be one of the biggest they have ever had.

WVU Ranked No. 9 in the Nation - Even though the Women's XC team
has not raced in two weeks and they haven't even put all of their top
runners in a race yet, they are still being recognized as one of the
best groups in the nation. Not too bad since the majority of the girls
are home-grown West Virginians!!

Megan Truelove - WCHS's Athlete of the Week - Megan is one of
the best female runners at the high school level in the state of WV.

11th Annual Beckley Half Marathon Set for Saturday - This race
offers money and a great place to get a good run in if you are preparing
for a fall marathon (Columbus, NY, or Marshall). The course has a couple
of hills but has great facilities.

MU Marathon Sign-ups Busy - We are just a month away from
Huntington's very own Marathon. They have been growing every year and by
the
reviews at MarathonGuide.com, Dr. Dannals and the crew at
HealthyHuntington.org put on a great event!

Haile Breaks 2:04 Barrier - In case anyone missed it yesterday,
Haille Gebrselassie set a new World Record for the Marathon just
breaking the 2:04 mark with a time of 2:03:59. That is a 4:44/mile pace
or if you are in a car, just below 13mph. This is the same guy who made
big news by not running in the Olympics because of pollution.

Frohnapfel Finishes in Season Best at Sean Earl Invitational
-The Marshall University Men's XC team is lead by a couple of young
runners as Sophomore Eric Frohnapfel lead the team followed by Freshman
Matt Shiffbauer who was only three seconds behind. On the girls side,
Kathleen Clark lead the team with a time of 19:37. MU will be in action
again in two weeks as they head to Greenville, SC for the Furman Inv.

off, we have the

Delp Meorial 5K in Bluefield, WV, the
Tour of Davis 5K in Davis, WV, the
Pumpkin Run 5K in Milton, WV, the
Run For Recovery in Huntington, WV, the
SpoonBread Festival 5K in Berea, KY, and the
Glenwood RSVP 5K in Marietta, OH! On top of that, the 2 College
Women's XC Teams will be in action this weekend as Marshall heads to
Chicago and WVU is heading to Bethlehem, PA. This will be the first time
that WVU's full team will run together this season.

WATCH OUT!!!! Last night, int Portsmouth, OH, Shawnee State hosted
the 2008 Fall Bear Run 5K and had over 850 finishers!!! That is
freaking awesome! Congrats to Keegan Rathkamp(14:59) and Tracy Weithoff
(18:50) for leading the masses!
