WV 5K Training Class Starting Soon!

Interested in having someone else pay for you to complete a training class and the West Virginia 5k Championship? We have got a great deal for YOU!!

A series of running classes, at the Marshall Recreation Center, are going to be offered, beginning in April, leading up to The Herald-Dispatch West Virginia 5K Championship on June 18th. The WV 5K Training Class will begin on April 11th and run through June 13th. The class will take place on Monday’s from 5:30pm-6:30pm. There will be no classes on May 9th or May 30th. Runners will be encouraged to test their own limits on these off-days! Two instructors will lead the training class: Bethany Williams and Jared King (former Cabell Midland Cross Country runner).

The price for the training class will be $45 for Rec Members and $60 for Non-Members, for the 8 weeks. Upon completion of the class and the WV 5k Championship, the cost for both the class and the race will be reimbursed to the participant on/or before July 1st. Those enrolled in the class and who have signed-up for the 5k, will receive a special WV5k shirt, to recognize their dedication and accomplishment!

Registration for the West Virginia 5K Championship is available at www.WV5K.com. The Saturday, June 18th race begins at 8am. Registration is $20 before June 5th. Participants must register by June 11th to get their names on their bib numbers and by June 13th to be guaranteed a T-shirt. Entry fees are non-refundable.

“The Herald-Dispatch West Virginia 5K Championship was very successful last year, but this year we want it to be even bigger and better,” said Jon Sutton, race director. “I encourage everyone to register early. We have a lot of different and exciting incentives this year. This is one of the largest and fastest races in Huntington! We encourage runners and walkers of all ages to participate. It’s a fun event that will help fight childhood obesity in our area. Make a difference while getting healthy yourself.”
