Running Does More for the Heart than You Think!

One family sets out to make a huge impact in the community and helps to take preventative measures to keeping others safe! The Maura Rae Kuhl AED Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in February 2010, to meet the needs of raising funds and placing Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in local schools. The foundation is named in memory of Maura Rae Kuhl, the daughter of Jess & Mary Kuhl. She was a beautiful 3 day old infant, and when Jess & Mary went to check on their daughter in September 2003, they woke up to every parent’s worst nightmare, she had passed away suddenly and without warning.
Jess & Mary Kuhl set out to make a difference in the community by setting a goal of placing AEDs in all local schools in the area, but they did so much more than this!! Jess said, “We work towards this goal because our prayer is that no parent has to endure the pain of losing a child.” Undetected cardiac issues are becoming more common among youth and early cardiac defibrillation (AED) and CPR are the answer.
From Jess & Mary Kuhl:
“Thank you so much for your continued support of the Maura Rae Kuhl AED Foundation. We are pleased to announce that we have placed AED’s in every school in Putnam County, Mason County, and now Lincoln County. We have also placed a few in other counties. We raised around $12,000 with the race this past year. We used a portion of the money to replace the batteries and pads in the AED’s in Putnam County, and with the money carried over from last year’s race and the money from this year, we were able to order 13 AED’s! This was super exciting for us because we ordered the 13 AED’s on September 1st, which would have been Maura’s 13 birthday.
It is truly humbling to witness the amount of support that we have received over the years from our family and friends. When we first started fundraising for Putnam County, we never dreamed that we would be able to place as many AED’s as we have. We cannot thank everyone enough for their continued support.”
The 7th Annual Maura Rae Kuhl AED Foundation 5k has been tentatively planned for August 19, 2017 at the Valley Wave Pool Park. If you have any questions or would like more information on the foundation, please visit www.mrkaedfoundation.org.
