March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and We Have a Race for You!
By: Kayla Dodd
Wear your BLUE and come out and join us for the Care for Your Colon 5k on Saturday, March 25th at Barboursville Park. The race will kick-off at 9 AM! This race is for a great cause and 100% of the proceeds will stay local.
Event organizer Kelly Jobe said, “This race is very important to me because I am a Colon Cancer Survivor. 100% of the monies raised from this event will stay local and go towards helping others who are battling colon cancer. I am working with the St. Mary’s Foundation to start up a fund that will help in assisting other colon cancer patients. This race is for a great cause and I hope to see several people next month at the 5k!”
In February 2000, President Clinton officially dedicated March as National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Since then, it has grown to be a rallying point for the colon cancer community where thousands of patients, survivors, caregivers and advocates throughout the country join together to spread colon cancer awareness.
Owner of TriStateRacer Pat Riley said, “This race is very important for Team TSR, not only do we support the community but we support each other! When one of our very own was diagnosed with Colon Cancer, the entire team stepped in to help her in any way possible. When Kelly approached our team about hosting this colon cancer 5k, I was extremely excited to help out, her positive and encouraging attitude are an inspiration to many. We hope that you will join us on March 25th for the Care for Your Colon 5k!”
