TSR Runner of the Week-John Sloan

Congratulations to TSR Runner of the Week, John Sloan. He has been running for 24 years now and loves every minute of it. He enjoys his training runs and running in races! His first race was the Tim Wells Memorial 5k in 2001, and he holds a current 5k PR of 16:58.

His current running goal is to continue running for as long as he can and to have a long line of runners within his new family, from generations to come. His motivation to run is his kids! He said, “I want to be able to pass it along to all of my children. I want them to appreciate the hard work and determination and to be successful.” One of the coolest things he has experienced on a run was being able to see the Blue Ridge Mountains during a run before.

John has a few races on his upcoming race calendar but is looking forward to his Fall half marathon. A dream race would be the Ragnar Trails relay in Tennessee. His favorite running motivational quote is, “Run your own race with heart and determination”.

His best experience from running was when he lived in Florida and got to run along the coast! His favorite brand of running shoes are Saucony. His best advice to a beginner runner is to run for yourself. “Running is not about beating other runners, it's about challenging yourself to be a better person on and off the field.” Running has changed his life in too many ways to explain. “I battle depression and anxiety, running gives me a reason to move every single day. I am in my own world when I run, I can zone out and forget the negative and build positivity.”

Running has had a positive impact on John’s life and benefitted him in many ways. Congrats to John on his runner accomplishments, hard work and determination. Team TSR will see you at the finish line!
