42nd Annual East Greenup Kiwanis Run By The River

Course
The race courses are out and back, on flat neighborhood streets and the scenic River Road. The course is well marked and policed, with water stations and split times provided. Races start and finish at the Russell Senior Citizens Center at Bellefonte and Ferry Streets. 5K runners turnaround on the River Road while 10K runners continue through Worthington and back. The new Ironton-Russell Bridge serves as a backdrop for the races.
Entry Fees
Entry fees are $20 through Tuesday, June 4, 2019; 14 and under can registered through race day for $20; registrations for all others are $25 beginning June 5, 2019 through race day. You may preregistered at www.runbytheriver.com or by mail to: Tim Gearhart, Race Director, 1220 Navajo Trail, Ironton, OH 45638. Registration tables open on race day at 7:00 a.m. Preregistered runners can pick up their packets at that time. Tech shirts are given to all registered runners; your best bet to get your desired size is to preregister. On the day of the race, it's first come, first served!

Awards
Awards are given to the overall winner and runnerup in both the 5K and 10K races, both men's and women's divisions. The top three finishers in each age group in both events, men's and women's divisions, will receive 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals. All runners 9 and under who do not receive a medal in their age group will receive a participation medal. There are several special events within the 5K race. Trophies are given to the winner and runnersup in the following 6 categories: father/son, mother/daughter; mother/son; father/daughter; strollers (parent, grandparent pushing child in a stroller); and Top Dog (runners whose dog runs the race on a leash). Walkers will receive times, but no awards.
Charity Information
The Kiwanis Club of East Greenup County, Ky., uses money raised from this event to complete community service projects. The club sponsors Key Clubs at two local high schools and a builders club at a local Middle School. Projects supported by the race include scholarships to Key Club seniors at the two high schools; funding to the Family Resource Centers at three local high schools; food baskets at Thanksgiving for about 50 families; support of a summer reading program at the Greenup County public libraries; a contribution to the local Shop With A Cop program at Christmas, and more.
