Course
Road Race - Out and Back. To use our race course: The Kanawha Boulevard has a fantastic new walking/running path from the Interstate 64 bridge to the Patrick Street bridge. Our race course is designed to go from starting at Magic Island Park straight into FamilyCare's parking lot in Patrick Street Plaza and back to the starting point for exactly 3.1 miles, or 5k.
Next year will be a road race and we will have the whole Kanawha Boulevard shut down to run on the road along the beautiful Kanawha River on this same course. We encourage you to practice running it :)
Entry Fees
This is a free virtual event, but donations are accepted and appreciated.
We are asking for a $10 donation to pre-order a T-shirt in your chosen size.
Our goal is to make this event free every year for those still living in recovery residences, and/or those new in their sobriety. We can only pull off an event like this with your generosity.

Please note: to receive an award, you must post a screenshot of your running app: fitbit, strava, mapmyrun, etc. with your TIME of running a 5k or 3.1 Miles, with the hashtag #GR4R2020 on social media ...Post your pictures on our Facebook Event page or Instagram between 12AM on Saturday Sept 19th and 11:59PM on Saturday Sept 26th to be officially entered to win.
Awards go to: The fastest male finisher, the fastest female finisher, and the fastest person in recovery to finish.
GRAND PRIZE drawing: Donated award package from the Division of Natural Resources (DNR) of a weekend stay at one of West Virginia's beautiful State Parks. We will draw a random name from everyone that finishes the 5K.

WVARR envisions that all persons in recovery from addiction have access to the recovery supports they need to achieve their goals and live rewarding and fulfilling lives free of stigma.
Mission
The mission of WVARR is to serve as a unified voice advocating for and educating about the recovery residence community in West Virginia, and to create a framework and system for implementing operational best practices in line with NARR standards, including capacity building.

We are people in long-term recovery who have dedicated our lives to serving those seeking a life of recovery. We care about all people recovering from substance use disorders, no matter their pathway to recovery, and we believe a growing community of people with lived experience with addiction and alcoholism should lead the way for the recovery advocacy movement in West Virginia.
