Prepare for a challenging but rewarding run through the beautiful Gatewood Trails system. This route is built for true trail runners, featuring the classic, rugged Appalachian foothills terrain that makes the area famous.

Runners will navigate a dynamic course characterized by:

  • Rolling Hills: Expect a steady challenge with frequent, yet manageable, ups and downs that will test your legs and endurance.

  • Winding Single-Track: The path is primarily packed dirt and single-track, which will require attentive footing.

The course will be clearly marked with high-visibility flagging and tape. 

Distance: 5 Kilometers (3.1 Miles) Apx. 350FT Elevation Gain.

Trail Description: (All trails for the race will be clearly marked.)
From the entrance of the trail head, runners will go straight and veer off to the right of the trail at the split of "Gatewood Trail" and the Seating Bench. At the top of the hill, you will turn "LEFT" onto "Boundary - Rolling Rock." Then your next intersection, you will take a left following the sign "To Gatewood". Continuing onto Gatewood Trail, at the Bell, turn right onto "Buddha." After the 1-Mile Mark, you will turn right at the trail split, and follow the trail to "The Hub". Then you will go straight following "Sugar Ridge" and take a right at the split and go all the way down "Rickabaugh Hill" and take a sharp left onto "Boundary - Farmview." Follow this trail all the way to the finish line!

Distance: 10 Kilometers (6.2 Miles)

From the entrance of the trail head, runners will go straight and veer off to the right of the trail at the split of "Gatewood Trail" and the "Seating Bench". At the top of the hill, you will turn "RIGHT" onto "Boundary - Turkey Feather." Then at your next intersection, you will turn "LEFT" going up hill immediatly turning "RIGHT" back into the woods following "Jewel Ridge." Make a "LEFT" going downhill on "Jewel Ridge", and make a sharp "RIGHT" onto "Red Storm." Follow this to the next intersection and turn "LEFT", going up "Moose Hill", circling back to "Jewel Ridge". Follow everything backwards til you get "Boundary - Rolling Rock." Then your next intersection, you will take a "LEFT" following the sign "To Gatewood". Continuing onto "Gatewood Trail", at the "Bell", turn "RIGHT" onto "Buddha." After the Buddha statue, you will turn "RIGHT" at the trail split, and follow the trail to "The Hub". Then you will go "STRAIGHT" following "Sugar Ridge" and take a "RIGHT" at the split heading downhill. Then take a sharp "RIGHT" into the trail taking an unnamed trail onto "Black Snake", going towards "Boundary - Spooky". Follow "Boundary" all the way to the Full Aid Station, then take a "LEFT" heading up "Rickabaugh Hill", and take a sharp "RIGHT" onto "Boundary - Farmview." Follow this trail all the way to the finish line!

Every stride you take on the Gatewood Trails helps us cross our finish line: raising funds for essential team needs.

By tackling the hills of the Gatewood Trails 10K/5K, you are investing directly in the dedication, discipline, and dreams of young local athletes. Thank you for helping us give our team the resources they need to succeed this season!

A portion of the race proceeds will also be directly put back into supporting and maintaining the Gatewood Trails. 

More Information

If you have never been to Gatewood Trail System, please insert the whole address into your GPS. Follow the gravel road all the way back to the trail system. Parking will be in the Grass leading to the shelterhouse.
