Course

Challenging but Scenic Course winding through the hills and hollers of Van Lear Kentucky. Starting near the Van Lear Historical Society, you run along approximately 2 miles of paved road, past Webb's General Store, before turning up Miller's Creek, instead of Butcher Holler, and heading to the top of Beech Fork Mines. Run through a reclaimed strip mine, and enjoy beautiful scenery before returning to the road to finish at the Van Lear Historical Society and Coal Museum for a complimentary Dinner with an after party featuring local musical groups.

Entry Fees

Half Marathon 50 online or post marked prior to October 30th. Race Day 70. 5K 25 online or post marked prior to October 30th, Race Day 30.

Age Groups

Male and Female Divisions. Under 10, 11-17, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. Age group recognition and bragging rights.

Awards

Each finisher gets a custom designed t-shirt, and a bank mule finishing trophy crafted from coal and local products. Award winners will receive custom coal based trophies and bragging rights. Each Half Marathon participant will also receive a complimentary subscription to the Bank Mule, the quarterly news letter of the Van Lear Historical Society, a $15.00 value. 5K participants may purchase one separately.
