The 2nd Annual Kingsford Allegheny Highlands Trail 20 Miler and Relay will take place on the Allegheny Highlands Trail running from just outside of Elkins, WV to Mill Race Park, Parsons, WV. The trail is made of dirt, crushed stone and pavement. This is a point to point race course. Please join us for this exciting event in support of the Highlands Trail Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to trail development and maintenance in the Potomac Highlands of WV. The course will close at 1PM.

The Kingsford Allegheny Highland Trail 20 Miler is a perfect training event for the Morgantown Marathon, Morgantown, WV.

Entry Fees

Individual Entry Fees:

  • Before June 20, 2017 - $50 (Highland Trail Foundation Members $45)
  • After June 20, 2017 - $60 (Highland Trail Foundation Members $55)

Relay Teams (Up to Four runners):
Each person on the relay team must register individually and Create or Join the team during registration process.

  • $25/runner (Before 20 June)
  • $30/runner (After 20 June)

Female and Male - 3 deep, 10 year age groupings

Awards:
Custom handmade mugs by MUD Ceramics, Thomas, WV, will be awarded to:

  • Overall Top Male and Female finisher
  • Top 3 Male finishers in each age group (16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+)
  • Top 3 Female finishers in each age group (16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+)
     
  • First Place Overall Relay Team

The awards will be handed out as placed runners finish. 

SWAG: Running hats and locally made finishers medals.

More Information

Packet Pickup:
Race day packet pickup will take place at the Mill Race Park in Parsons, WV from 5:30AM-6:30AM. 

 

Race Start: 
7:30AM, along the Allegheny Highland Rail Trail near the Highland Advent Church/School (1 Old Leadsville Road Elkins, WV 26241)

 

Take Route 1/Old US Highway 219. Turn right at the Gilman Trailhead onto Gilman Road. Drive 1-1.5miles, there is a small parking lot beside the trail. The race start is 0.4miles up from the parking area. (Must walk on trail to actual start.) Look for the signs too! 

 

Transportation/Parking:
Tucker County schools will provide a race shuttle from the Mill Race Park, Parsons, WV to the starting line near the Highland Adventist Church/School. (1 Old Leadsville Road Elkins, WV 26241) Buses will leave for the starting line at  6:30AM. Note: Each bus can carry 52 adults, so please plan accordingly. The bus ride will take approximately 35-40mins. 

Relay Team of Four Transportation:
Each relay team is responsible for their own transportation. Runner 1 may be transported via shuttle bus with the other individual runners. Only one vehicle is needed. Based on four runners. If your team has less than four runners, you will need to combine legs. 

 

Relay Transition areas:

Leg 1: Start to Leading Creek Fire Department/ Kerns Trailhead - 4.6miles

 

Leg 2: Leading Creek FD/ Kerns Trailhead to Montrose - 4.1miles

 

Leg 3: Montrose to Moore Station Road - 5.9miles

 

Leg 4: Moore Station Road to Finish! - 5.4miles

Bag Drop Off:
At this time we will not offer a pre-race bag check. 

 

Aid Stations/Restrooms:
Several Aid stations will be provided along the course. Stations will include water, Gatorade, ice and various energy packed snacks. It is suggested that each runner carry water and fuel in addition to what the aid stations provide. It was very hot last year, so we moved up the start time.

Restrooms are located at the Mill Race Park, Parsons, WV. Portapotties will be provided at the start line and at two locations along the race course.

Miles 4.6, 8.7, 11.2, 14.6, 17.7

 

After Race Party:
Refreshments, snacks, and entertainment will be provided to the runners participating in the event. Bring your bathing suite so you may enjoy the Mill Race Park Splash Pad. It was a big hit last year.

The Kingsford Allegheny Highlands Trail 20 Miler and Relay is a locally supported event. From the sponsors and awards to the finishers medal and volunteers. Supporting our communities by keeping it local! 

 

Spectators:
The race course parallels Route 219. Please be cautious to all participants.
