Jessica Taylor Biography

Fayetteville High (class of 2001) / Marshall University

 

Jessica Dawn Taylor (born December 11, 1983) is one of West Virginia’s most successful female prep distance runners of all-time. She grew up in Fayetteville, West Virginia, where she attended Fayetteville High School. Taylor was a 16-time West Virginia high school individual state champion in track and cross country. She was selected 2000-2001 Gatorade West Virginia Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

 

 Prep:

• 2000 Coalfield Conference cross country champion

• Won four consecutive Region IV Class AA-A Girls cross country titles (1997-2000)

• Won four consecutive Class AA-A state individual cross country titles (1997-2000)

• Four-time all-state selection in cross country (1997-2000)

• Became only the second runner in West Virginia history to win four straight individual cross country state championships. The only runners to accomplish this feat (male or female): Wendy Green (Athens) – 1986-1989; Jessica Taylor (Fayetteville) – 1997-2000; Rachel Buser (Berkeley Springs) – 2004-2007

• 1997 Foot Locker South Regional – 88th Place Seeded Girls Race (19:41.1), while only a freshman

• 1998 Foot Locker South Regional – 29th Place Sophomore Girls Race (21:06), while earning third team All-South

• 1999 Foot Locker South Regional - 22nd Place Seeded Girls Race (18:47.80), while earning third team All-South

• 2000 Foot Locker South Regional – 33rd Place Seeded Girls Race (19:14)

• Earned three Region IV Class AA-A Girls individual track titles in the 800-meter run (1999-2001), while runner-up in 1998

• Won four consecutive Region IV Class AA-A Girls track titles in the 3200- and 1600-meter run (1998-2001)

• Earned three individual state track titles as a freshman in the 3200-, 1600- and 800-meter runs

• Earned three individual state track titles as a sophomore in the 3200-, 1600- and 800-meter runs

• Set new state records in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs as a sophomore (1999)

• Earned three individual state track titles as a junior in the 3200-, 1600- and 800-meter runs

• Earned three individual state track titles as a senior in the 3200-, 1600- and 800-meter runs

• Set new state record in 3200-meter run as a senior (2001)

• Became the first high school female in West Virginia to crack the 11:00 barrier

• Earned three high point performances of 30 points each at the AA Girls West Virginia High School State Track & Field Championships (1998, 1999, 2001).

• Twelve-time all-state selection in track

• Best track performance for class AA-A girls in 3200-, 1600- and 800-meter runs (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001)

• High Point Individual State Meet (1998, 1999, 2001), while runner-up in 2000

• Winner of the Ray McCoy Award as the top track and field athlete in the state for 2000 & 2001

• Selected 2000-2001 Gatorade West Virginia Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year
